For most of us, 2020 was likely the worst year of our lives. It was a year plagued by constant fear, loss, and uncertainty. Sending out a “typical” holly jolly holiday card at the end of such a terrible, horrible, no-good year felt severely out-of-touch.
Tasked with penning the holiday card for all seven offices of our 1000-plus-employee agency, we opted for a slightly different route. We chose not to take the typical path of celebration, good cheer, or holiday greetings, but instead one of gratitude… with just a dash of gallows humor.
This card had to be a thank you to an agency that adeptly adjusted to working from home. It had to be a thank you for every last-minute request, mute button malfunction, and Zoom happy hour that occurred over the last 365 days. It had to be more than just a holiday card.
We decided to summarize 2020 with a series of illustrations that depicted all the year’s significant events, both big and small. TP shortages, natural disasters, murder hornets, and more were all represented, along with a message extending this gratitude to everyone at our agency and a reminder that we could not have made it through all of this without them.
