I Hate Music: Four Days with Carpool

I’ll be honest, in early 2024, I was going through it. Disillusioned with my job and looking for a fresh creative outlet, I reached out to my friend Chris “Stoph” Colasanto who sings and plays guitar in the punk band Carpool. Their debut album was my favorite of 2020, and their new record, My Life In Subtitles, was releasing in March. Turns out they were touring near me, so I asked if I could come along and produce a documentary

I asked my buddy Josh Sullivan, a local filmmaker and musician, to help film it, and he was down. That spring, the two of us joined Carpool on the road for four days of shreddin’, shoutin’, and general-purpose rockstar shit. Aside from the documentary, I produced two essays documenting the experience. The first of which offers an abridged history of the band and their music, while the second piece focuses on the group’s live performance and what it was like joining Carpool on the road.

Overall, this was an incredibly fun and illuminating experience. It’s all very scrappy and DIY (exactly how I like it), and we are already excited to do it again, using everything we learned to make something even better.
